Weekly Ginger Bites

Last week was, well, simply madness – and that’s the reason why I sadly didn’t get round to doing a post for Ginger Bites! Since then things have calmed down and I’ve been able to think straight again, thank goodness.

Since my last post, I’ve been to a few pilates classes and I love it! It really does burn, and is such a workout, but it doesn’t make me feel like I’m going to keel over and die! I’m honestly rubbish with anything cardio related, so something of a quieter nature has always appealed to me. I love the calm quiet music and our instructor is so happy and cheerful – she really makes those last 8 seconds to agony a little more fun! Now, usually I’d be at pilates right now – but, my right wrist has decided to funk out on me with a case of tendinitis, so I’ve had to take a day off and hope it gets better, because I’m already missing it! I can’t wait to get back, but I’m not pushing my wrist – using it for typing and working is tough enough! I’m hoping this time next week I’ll be enjoying my pilates and feeling the burn!

I’ve had two big websites launch over the past two weeks – http://www.paean.co.za and http://www.bestsapcbi.com. Both had their challenges, but I’m so glad we got them going at long last! I’ve got one very exciting project with an overseas friend, creating a special logo inspired by nature and gold foiling. I can’t wait to show you all!

Now, most of you know I’m a photographer on the weekends, and video really isn’t my thing. Recently, my boyfriend and I got ourselves a little Veho Muvi K2 camera to take to the track to grab some videos of the cars flying around the track. Now, my video and editing skills need a lot of work, but I did enjoy it, and we made a little video that we put on Youtube! Check it out!

We’ve got another race this weekend, and I’ll be trying out our new mini tripod and extending pole to get some more creative shots of the cars themselves. So there might be another video next week, keep your eyes peeled! I somehow managed to get a couple of cool links this week, so go grab a cuppa and start your weekend off with the best of the internet! Have a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Weekly Ginger Bites

It’s almost almost almost Spring! I know everyone says Spring Day is technically somewhere around the 21st of September, but to me, the 1st is totally Spring Day! And I’m so excited to see the warmer weather again. In fact, I even opened the giant sliding door in the office today! Granted, it is a little bit fresh, but that’s because it gets no direct sunlight until October, but it’s still so nice to have fresh air in the office. I’ve been watching all the little signs of spring, our blossom tree is finally blossoming, and the trees are starting to get their teeny little green buds. Sorry northern hemisphere, but it’s time for summer to head back this way! ๐Ÿ˜€

This week has been, um, mental. Pretty much every day for the past few weeks has been crammed full of work, and weekends are spent either meeting with clients for weddings, painting walls, racing or helping out to get the swimming school ready. We’re still a little behind schedule, but I’m hoping we’ll get everything done in time! I’m also in the process of lining up new projects to start in September, and boy are there a ton, but they all look so exciting! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m also so close to being able to show off some lovely new projects too! But I’m also still turning a few people away who I really can’t fit into my crazy workload at the moment, and I feel so bad! I am starting to refer to other designers, so hopefully I’ll helping out other designers with work and great clients!

Well, things are getting busier and busier by the day! I’m genuinely feeling bad about turning people away, but I simply can’t take on any more work. Every day is planned so careful to get as much done on projects that if I added something else, one of my clients would suffer. And I’m not too keen on that happening! So, chances are, if you’ve emailed me in the last two or three weeks, I’ve possibly said no. I’ll be taking more projects on in September when several projects have been completed. I am getting a lot of requests for September, so at this point, I may have to work on a monthly slot basis, with limited slots per month for new projects! So if you’d like me to do some work for you – give me a shout so I can add you to the September list, before it gets too full!

We’ve had plenty drama and chaos at the house, as we’ve spent the past few weeks renovating, well, a lot! We had our 40 year old pool and paving redone. We had a full battery backup system installed so we don’t lose power during load shedding. Note – we haven’t had actual load shedding since we installed the things! Murphy! We’ve gone several days without power due to electricians working and switching everything off. Thank goodness for my UPS and phone, otherwise I’d never get any work done! Having people constantly on the premises, asking for this and that, man it gets draining! I’m praying things are finally going to calm down and the house can function normally again!

This past Sunday I headed out to the stables for their dressage show. It was a lovely show, not too hectic, and the weather was amazing! I actually got a tan, and a bit burnt because I didn’t think the sun would be that strong! The photos are going towards their calendar, and one of them will be in the final calendar! We’re stilling planning shoots and getting the final photos together, but Iย  think it’s going to be an amazing one this year!

So, with that being said, I haven’t had all that time to browse the web, but I did find a few little gems that are totally worth grabbing a coffee for and reading! I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Weekly Ginger Bites

I am back! Last week’s Ginger Bites went on hold because, well, I wasn’t anywhere near my desk. I was far away, enjoying the peace and quiet that is Magaliesburg! My boyfriend whisked me away for a long weekend into the mountains, where there are some lovely little cottages that are just too cosy and comfortable for words! I really could live there! We’ve been to Nullarbor Cottages before, and it was such a great experience we went again! 4 days away from the madness that was swallowing our home was definitely what I needed!

While I had a mountain of work to return to, it was so nice to get away, go for walks, take photos and just relax. It’ll probably be the last time I get to do this for the rest of the year, so I tried to make the most of it as best as I could.

DSC_7207-15 DSC_7216-18

In the meantime, I’m currently working on some great things, which I’ll be able to show you in a few weeks time! Next week I have a mega reveal for what’s been going on at Little Seahorses Swimming School, boy is it very very very exciting!ย This weekend I’m off to take photos for the Shepherd’s Fold calendar as they’re having their dressage show. It’ll be so nice to get out into the countryside and be with horses, and I can’t wait to print this calendar already!

Now, as I’ve been away, I haven’t seen much around the web, but here are a few links that I managed to stumble upon in my breaks.ย  I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Weekend is here – at last! Man, this past week has just been insane, I think it’s taken even longer than normal to get to Friday! This week I’ve made a couple of changes and planned for pretty much the rest of the year, which sounds crazy, but my calendar has a habit of filling up pretty fast! Firstly, I’m going to be taking a week off from the 3rd til the 10th of August! It’s been a super intense year for me, mentally and emotionally, and it hit me as I was lying in bed not being able to sleep for the umteenth night – I need a freakin’ break! So I’ll not be responding to any emails whatsoever, no phonecalls, nothing at all! It’ll help me to refocus, relax and find renewed energy to take on the next few months til the end of the year, since I don’t usually take that much time off over Christmas and New Year!

Secondly, I’m not taking on any new projects at all until September! With so many projects at the moment that have deadlines either towards the end of August or early September, I’d prefer to focus all my energy to my existing projects to get them completed. You can’t start one slice of cake unless you’ve finished one, right?! I do have some fabulous projects that I can’t wait to see completed and show them off to the world! ๐Ÿ™‚ From 2Loan, BEST, Little Seahorses, Purple Mountain, SPL and more! To my existing clients – you’re getting all my love and energy! To anyone wanting to using me in the next few months – I promise it’ll be worth waiting until September for!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Is it just me, or are these weeks starting to flap their wings and fly by now? It’s July – only 2 months left of winter! I am just a little excited for spring, this cold is really not working for me. It hasn’t been the coldest winter we’ve had though, or perhaps I’m just adjusting! Maybe staying wrapped up in a million layers is finally working!

It’s been a rather busy week, one big thing being that I managed to launch my photography website at long last! Since I’ve only been working on it in my spare time, it has taken a while, but I think it was well worth it! Check it out here! I also signed up for a pretty sweet course to create custom WordPress themes – oh yeah! For a while I’ve mostly been using paid themes and customising them, but it’s starting to take far too long to find the perfect theme for that one website, and it’s driving me insane. So, it’s about time I started learning how to create my own themes, taking me back to my HTML website days. I’m so excited, it’s going to be great to learn something new again that I can give to my clients!

I’ve still got some fabulous projects that I’m working hard on, which I hope to be able to show you in the next few weeks! With that being said, I think this week’s Ginger Bites is probably going to be the shortest one ever – I think I’ve been working too much to have anything more interesting to share with you! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Another busy week has flown by and frazzled my brain a bit in the process! I swear I blink and another week as has gone by! With this time of year I don’t really mind because of winter – my office is usually around 12 degrees on a good day, and I get a bit of cabin fever when I realise I’ve blocked up all the gaps in the windows and sealed the doors shut! I was just a tad excited about the winter solstice, even though the sun isn’t actually at it’s furthest point yet, but it’s progress! And yes, for those summer lovers like me, the sun will start coming back on July 16, and we gain a whole minute of the day! Heck yes! ๐Ÿ™‚

Last week Friday we went to see OneRepublic live at the Dome, and I was absolutely blown away by everything! Firstly, the whole event was so well organised, and the sound was almost flawless. Gangs of Ballet opened with some seriously good numbers to get the crowd going, and I wished they’d stayed on a bit longer! OneRepublic finally arrived on stage, hidden behind a giant white curtain and all we could see was their shadows, playing to Light It Up. The curtain dropped and there they were! Eeeek! The crowd was swept up with their amazing songs and we chanted and sang along to every song, it was simply mesmerising! They left us singing for their encore, where they spoilt us with 3 amazing songs, and to top it all off, we were to be included in their Native Tour DVD! Woohoo! It was definitely one of the most amazing experiences, I get the chills every time I think about it! Wishing we could do it all over again tonight!

The rest of the week has been quite a blur, with more prep work for the swimming school, as well as the wedding expo next week. I received a whole bunch of prints and albums yesterday which totally made me realise how soon the show is! I’m starting to get super excited, but super nervous too!

Today I’m spending a bit of time outside of the office and heading out to the farm where I’ll be planning a calendar for Shepherd’s Fold! We ran out of time last year to plan one, but we’re starting early, and I can’t wait! What’s better than adorable ponies, beautiful horses, fresh air and an awesome calendar design? Watch this space folks!

With all of that, I still have a ton of work to do! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

You know it’s winter when you can barely feel your typing fingers, or your right hand from using the tablet! It’s been a busy week in my office, I never thought I would be this busy with some fantastic clients! Wow!

2 weekends ago I managed to spend a Sunday afternoon at a horse show, and took a few photos. For me, it’s the perfect combo to relax – horses and photography. Plus, it was the beautiful new arena launch at Shepherd’s Fold Stables, which was amazing. Those views are absolutely beautiful, and I can’t say enough about it! It’s great for riders and spectators alike, so I’ll hopefully be going to more and more in the future!

Last weekend I took part in my very first RC race, and it was so much more intense than I realised! I’m not a naturally good competitor by nature, the stress gets to me and freaks me out to the point where I’d much rather curl into a little ball and sleep! So for me to take part in a race was incredibly challenging on that part of me, and it pushed a lot of buttons. I did well in the end, with a few hiccups, and finished second in my race overall! And to top it all off, my boyfriend his race as well, and it was his first time competing in this kind of racing. It was a mega learning experience, but as they say, if you fall off the horse, you have to get back on it and keep going!

On Monday I started with the launch of Qotho’s new website, which we had some trouble with due to the host being, well, useless. I won’t name any names right now, but let’s say that they really need to pull their socks up. Thankfully the site went live, and we could all breathe a sigh of relief! With Tuesday being Youth Day, I took a relaxed day as best as I could, in fact, it was so relaxed that I don’t honestly remember what I did! Must’ve been good! I’ve been working with 2Loan on some new marketing posters, as well as some detailed custom poster calendars and notepads for Gemini Promotions. Also, I launched BEST’s new logo on my website, and I’ll hopefully be loading more work from them in the near future!

I’m also working super hard in the background on my photography website and prepping for a wedding expo in July. It’s so easy to get wrapped up with my normal work that I need to focus myself on getting everything ready well ahead of time. It’s a huge show, and being my first one, I am actually pretty nervous, but I’m hoping it’ll be a ton of fun and a good learning experience!

With all of that, I still have a ton of work to do! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and until next week, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Another intensive week has come and gone, and it’s been stressful and fun at the same time. This week I’ve been wrestling with WebAfrica’s archaic control panel and limitations, making a simple website become impossible. Gosh! Thankfully they surprised me with a quick response and we’re on the right track to getting this site going soon. Yay! I’m also working feverishly hard on getting Little Seahorses’s Swimming School’s signage and website going, man I simply can’t wait to see her second branch up and running in September! I always love working on signage projects because it’s one of the most important aspects of any company premises, and being a part of guiding people towards that company is quite an achievement. So, hopefully in a few months time I’ll have a ton of shiny signage leading up to a beautiful swimming school to show you!

This week I finally discovered the name of a song (it’s actually an instrumental for movies and trailers) that’s been stuck in my head for years – and it’s always been a tiny bit of it, never enough for me to work out where it came from. I broke down and Shazam’d it, and discovered it was Heart of Courage by Two Steps From Hell! Since then I’ve been listening to their music ever since, it’s fabulous background music that keeps me going while I work! I feel a little like a heroic character in a movie, on a quest to save.. uhm… something. Meanwhile I’m actually sitting at my desk, wrapped in a blanket, designing a flyer!

This weekend I may or may not be taking part in my very first on road RC race! A while ago I bought a body for my car (identical to my actually car) and then painted it. I’m not exactly very confident in my racing skills yet, heck, I’m still learning to go round corners, but this could be fun. So we’ll see what happens, keep an eye on Instagram for more! (P.S. Who’s loving the new Instagram site design? Minimal ftw!)

Have a fantastic week everyone, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!

Winter is totally officially here in Joburg! This weather has been so nice to us that I knew we were gonna have it bad when it happened. And it sure is bad – this icy air and freezing wind is awful! It sure doesn’t make me want to get out of bed in the mornings!

So, my workload has pretty much exploded in the last week or so, which is fantastic. I’ve recently started doing all the design for a local loan business called 2Loan, from posters to business cards and more. I love having long term customers, it’s like making friends, but in a professional capacity. It’s also great to deal with the same people, you form a relationship that’s totally different from another customer, and it makes me feel ever so blessed! As well as 2Loan, I’ve also started working with Gemini Promotions, doing their corporate calendar designs & overprints, which has been fun and a bit of a learning experience. And, in more exciting news – remember the photos of the boxes I posted a while ago? Well, the brand is being launched tonight, and I’ll finally be able to show everyone what I’ve been doing! Next week I’ll be launching a new logo design and two new websites for local laboratory companies, so keep your eyes peeled! Things really have been flying here, and I’m loving it! Apart from the icy cold office (it’s currently 12 degrees centigrade in here) it’s making me incredibly grateful for every single customer I have! If you’re one of them, then here’s a mega thank you from me!

So, having had a rather busy week, I haven’t spent all that much time browsing the web unless I’m actually working, which means I’m not really browsing! So I’ve gathered what I could find, but it’s definitely been a quieter week on the interwebs for me! Hopefully next week will be a more colourful one!

Have a fantastic week everyone, here’s this week in links! Keep up with Facebook and Instagram to see what I do in between each Ginger Bites post!
