I am Dana Cato, a young and dedicated Johannesburg based multimedia designer. I grew up in the West Rand of Johannesburg, but love to travel and make the most of the good times between projects and whenever I have the chance.
I have just completed my four years of studying at the University of Johannesburg. The first three years gained a National Diploma in Multimedia, and the final year attributed to a Bachelor of Technology in Multimedia. What that really means is that I’m a designer of digital things. Web design, application design and development, as well as corporate identities and other interesting creative things. I love to design, and I love anything creative and visual.
For the past two years I have been freelancing to clients who needed some sort of design. Brochures, service pamphlets, websites, crockery, textile, label and logo design. Each and every project has been unique, fun, creating and boundary pushing to my skills as a designer, and I love it. It doesn’t matter what the project is, as long as it’s not designing blank paper, then it’ll always be something to enjoy and push myself. On top of enjoying working for my clients, I aim to make my clients happy by going the extra mile. It makes the project far more worth while, and there’s nothing more fantastic than listening to a very happy person on the other side of the phone or a smile on their face when they see the final product. I’m out to prove that I’m worth my hours of work and sleepless nights to add my style to the design industry.
On top of all my design skills, I am also a photographer, specialising in weddings and portraits. It keeps my creativity going when I’m between design projects with my small photography business. I’m a highly skilled image editor as well, with a semi-dangerous eye for detail and perfection. Nothing goes out unless it is just so. I’ll admit that my strengths lie in non-web and app design projects, such as coporate identities, but I’m a quick learner. If it’s based on something different and a little fun, then I’ll willingly push myself.
“You’re only as good as your last design. “
